I was in the Royal Engineers (TA), 101 Regiment. Joined up straight out of school.
Thanks, I had a very extensive discussion about the chapeau with Mark (Cookie), and studied a lot of pictures before contenting myself on the shape. Had to shape it twice mind to get it like I wanted. I'm soon off to take up a job in West Africa for half a year, so I'm intending to take a fair portion of my kit out because it is a) practical and b) to get it worn in haha.

Weren't they typically armed with the Mle. 36, especially at Bir Hakiem?

Indeed they were, but unfortunately I'm still awaiting delivery of my MAS. One day I'll have it!
